Cooma? Where is it and whats there?

Cooma is about 100km directly south of Canberra. It's often called the gateway to the Snowy Mountains as most people travel through Cooma to Thredbo and Kosciuszko National Park.

Cooma has a population of over 8000 people, and is the main supply centre for the Snowy Monaro region and its surrounding localities.  As such the town is well equipped with supply services such as; supermarkets, Service NSW office, real estates, retail outlets, butchers, gymnasium, hair dresses, vehicle repair outlets, rural supplies and of course, places to eat and drink - cafes, restaurants, pubs and clubs.

There are a large number of sporting bodies and teams in Cooma for children and adults, including squash, netball, golf, rugby, league, soccer etc. There is a Council swimming pool open, October through to March.  There are also some great mountain bike tracks in the area.

Skiing is one of the big attractions of the area. Perisher Blue and Thredbo ski areas are both under 100km from Cooma. It's possible to leave Cooma at 7am and be on the snow by 8:30am at Perisher in time for first tracks. Ski to midday then return to Cooma, Have lunch and start work at 2pm.

There are four (4) primary schools in Cooma and a high school. There is also a private school in Jindabyne (40 min west) that is K-12.
